Too often, developers and lobbyists are the loudest voices in New York City’s Uniform Land Use Review Process (ULURP). We need a long term strategic land use policy to prevent displacement and ensure that our communities are designed to provide for us. The current project by project land use process does not take into consideration a broader city-wide framework.
Our Plan for Land Use:
•Increase Community Boards review time for ULURP and revise land-use policies to prioritize community input
•Provide funding to facilitate community planning and zoning education sessions
•Ensure that impact assessments are conducted and shared with the community
•Revise zoning standards to formally acknowledge community gardens and create new zoning districts to set aside specific areas for urban farms.
• Ensure land use is data driven and accounts for public school seats, housing density, public parks, climate resiliency and transit options.
